At least five grain carriers were attacked by drones near the Russian Black Sea ports of Novorossiysk and Tuapse on 17 and 18 August.
The attacks targeted ships either heading to Russian ports to load grain or already carrying cargo after leaving the Black Sea ports, highlighting growing risks for commercial shipping in the region. The most serious incident involved the Liberia-flagged Anna S, a Greek-owned bulk carrier. The vessel was attacked on Monday while sailing empty toward Novorossiysk to load grain.

Notice of Cancellation is hereby given that, with effect from 72 hours after 00:00 hrs GMT on 12th August 2026, the following exclusion will apply from 00:01 hrs GMT on the 16th August 2026 in respect of War Risks coverage as set out in the Rules of the Association and/or terms of entry on all non-mutual business including but not limited to:
- Charterer's Liability Cover
- Fixed Premium Owners Cover
- Non-Poolable extended covers to Mutual entries and Fixed Premium P&I Cover.
The updated excluded areas have been determined as follows:
Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea
The waters enclosed by the following (the Boundaries):
- on the northwest, by the Red Sea, south of Latitude 25°30’N
- on the northeast, from the Yemen border at 16°38.5’N, 53°6.5’E to high seas point 14°55’N, 53°50’E
- on the east, by a line from high seas point 14°55’N, 53°50’E to high seas point 10°48’N, 60°15’E, thence to high seas point 6°45’S, 48°45’E
- and on the southwest, by the Somalia border at 1°40’S, 41°34’E, to high seas point 6°45’S, 48°45’E
Excepting coastal waters up to 12 nautical miles offshore of territories which are wholly or in part within the Boundaries.
The coastal waters exception above does not include the Bab el-Mandeb Traffic Separation Scheme, the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia that lies within the Boundaries, or the Yemeni coast.

On 11 August received a report of an incident involving a containership and military forces in the Gulf of Oman.
Authorities are aware of the incident, and relevant investigations are ongoing. Vessels operating in the area have been advised to monitor the latest maritime security information and maintain heightened awareness of the evolving operational environment.
Maritime security sources said the containership was believed to have been struck by a missile off the coast of Pakistan. The vessel has reportedly been identified as the Panama-flagged Vela Nova.
